The general screening protocol may provide early detection for disease and masses within many of the vital internal organs.
During the screening, the sonographer searches for masses and examines for size and texture of the organs, which can be indicators of disease. Disease in the following organs may be detected with this screening:
- Liver
- Gallbladder
- Common Bile Duct (CBD)
- Pancreas
- Kidneys
- Thyroid
Masses within these vital internal organs can be associated with cancer. Cancer
in any organ is much easier to treat
in the earlier stages and the chances of a positive outcome grows exponentially the earlier in the
disease process the treatment begins.
An abnormal organ texture or size
may indicate other disease processes which should be more closely monitored by
your physician.
